NBHA MT 5 OCTOBER UPDATE 2017

The 201 Montana NBHA State Championships that were held in Great Falls, September 29th-October 1st was a huge success, and very well attended by MT 5 members. In three days, $62,354.00 in cash and $25,000 in awards were handed out with 1207 runs!  That is pretty impressive for an Open, Youth and Senior barrel race in Montana and it is due to all of you as members and contestants, our awesome sponsors, the vendors, arena crew, office staff, Board of Directors, ExpoPark staff, awesome photographer, concession staff and enthusiastic crowd. We had 252 Open entries Friday for the Last Chance Qualifier Race, with a WPRA sidepot & UBRC sidepot.  Sat/Sun Open had 327 runs per day, 66 Youth and 85 Sr runs.

The silent auction was a huge success again this year, it keeps getting bigger and better every year, thank you to all the members/vendors that donated, remember we usually end up paying for at least one of the saddles with the silent auction. We already have vendors who have booked for next year, sponsors committing and qualifying races for the 2018 Finals already happening.

The 2018 Montana State NBHA finals will be held September 28th-30th, 2018 at ExpoPark in Great Falls, MT, mark your calendars now for this awesome event, remember you need to have entered 4 Montana NBHA sanctioned races to qualify for this event.  All MT 5 members that entered our races October 7th in Eureka & October 14th at Carpenter Arena, good news you already have 2 qualifier races done!!!!

YEAR END BANQUET:

Our year end awards banquet will be held at the Eagles Club in Kalispell on November 4th at 6pm, please bring a dish or desert to share at the potluck, there will be a no host bar available, our theme this year will be Anything Goes! Also please bring a wrapped gift for our door prize give-away, all your family and friends are welcome to attend.  In lieu of doing jackets this year, we are giving a sport type long sleeve pullover shirt that will be screen printed on the back, I have ordered enough that most everyone who entered this season can get one, however those that attend the banquet will get first choice on sizes so I encourage you to attend. River Bend Ranch, Ivy Redfield & Brooke Wilson will be doing the big bucket of fun again this year,  but you must be present to win. We will be handing out awards down to 10th place in the Open, 5th place in both Youth & Senior. We will also be announcing your new MT 5 Director!!!!

SEASON IN REVIEW:

We had a very full season of barrel races that seem to go by very fast this summer.  We had a few more co-sanctioned events this season, while the co-sanctioned events do not make the club as much money, the costs are less and I get a break from the office. Thank you to Carpenter Arena, Rich and Tammy Jo for all their hard work & for allowing us the use of their arena. Thank you to Rae Lynn & Jon Hays for all their hard work making sure the arena in Eureka was in good shape!  Thank you to Valee Cooley & Jana Perry for allowing MT 5 to be part of the Glacier Chaser, it was an awesome event again this year.  Thank you to Sharon Guenzler & Sarah Crimmins for allowing us to be part of the 3rd Annual Western Ranch Rodeo Barrel Race. I was also happy that we were able to again help out the MVHSR team with their fundraiser race in Polson, thank you Wendy McCaffree for volunteering your time to run the office! Thank you also to Lazy C Spear Productions/Win$um Barrel Racing Award Series (Wendy McCaffree) for putting on races & inviting MT5 to co-sanctioned with your series!

DIRECTOR’S CORNER:

It was another wonderful season except that I wished I would have been able to enter more barrel races myself but hopefully this next year I will be able too.  Be sure to look over the final points standings, if you have any questions, please contact me ASAP.  Remember that for points we take the fastest MT5 member’s time and then do the splits off of that time, so you may have gotten a check in say the 3D but your points ended up being in the 2D, this happened several times this year, also if you run 2 horses and they both end up in the same D, you only gets points on the horse that had the fastest time, if both horses ended up in different D, then you would get points in both D’s.  Remember also that we handle ties in the follow manner, the higher placing goes to the member that has entered the most MT 5 races, if this still results in a tie, the higher placing goes to the member who won the most money, if this still results in a tie, I flip a coin! This may seem unfair to some, but our awards are purchased from the money we earn off of our races and we just can’t afford to buy duplicate awards.  I hope to see all of you at the banquet, even if you are not getting an award, it is still a fun event and a great time to visit in a relaxed atmosphere, plus you might just win a really nice prize!!! Be Safe & see you down the road.

While I am going to enjoy my retirement, it was still a hard decision to make.  I have met a lot of wonderful people and watched many of you grow up into wonderful strong young women. Thank you for the many many years of your support!
